Fairfield Softball Welcomes New Varsity Head Coach Sam Wilson

As we celebrate the remarkable legacy of Coach Stieger and her nearly three decades of dedication to Fairfield Softball, we are equally excited to welcome a new leader to the program. At last night's Board of Education meeting, Mr. Sam Wilson was officially approved as our new Varsity Head Coach.

Coach Wilson joins Fairfield from Bellevue High School (KY), where he played a key role in transforming the softball program. Under his leadership, Bellevue recorded its winningest season since 2008, set a new program record for longest winning streak, and earned its highest postseason seed since 2010.

A standout pitcher during his playing career, Coach Wilson was a Kentucky State Baseball Champion at St. Xavier High School in Louisville. He graduated with one of the top 20 career ERAs in Kentucky high school history, went on to pitch at Centre College, and later became a two-year starting pitcher for the University of Cincinnati Club Baseball team, where he earned All-Conference honors.

Off the field, he has extensive experience leading youth camps and directing the St. Vincent DePaul youth baseball and softball academies in Louisville.
Reflecting on his new role, Coach Wilson shared:
"It's an incredible honor to step into a program shaped by Coach Stieger's nearly three decades of dedication. The foundation she built at Fairfield Softball is something I deeply respect, and I'm excited to carry that tradition forward while writing the next chapter with this group of players."
Throughout the interview process, it became clear that Coach Wilson embodies the values of Dedication, Pride, and Tradition that define Fairfield Softball. We are confident he is the right person to lead our program into its next chapter.
