Volleyball Squad Salutes Favorite Educators

| By:

Our Teachers Are Aces

The Fairfield boys volleyball program took a moment Tuesday before its match against Taylor to recognize and celebrate educators and mentors who have made a lasting impact on its players.

The teachers and staff members, according to the pregame announcement, "go far beyond the classroom — supporting, encouraging, and shaping our athletes into the young men they are today."
Each player selected a staff member who has made a difference in their life, then both were introduced to the crowd:
  • Juju Bomjan selected Elizabeth Welsh, his French 1 teacher. Juju says she is always willing to help with anything, and he appreciates how kind and easy she is to communicate with.
  • Sam Bowling chose Jen Printz, his pre-Calculus teacher. Sam says she is one of his favorite teachers because she makes difficult math feel easy. He appreciates that she creates a relaxed environment and brings humor into the classroom.
  • Michael Clark selected Melanie Riedel, his English teacher. Michael shared that she has always helped him when he needed it and has shown him that writing a one-page paper isn't as difficult as it seems.
  • Oliver Ficklin chose Stephen Louie from Engineering. Oliver shared that Louie has been his Tribe Time teacher for two years and has always been supportive, encouraging him to work toward his goals.
  • Braxton Furniss selected physics teacher and volleyball coach Kurt Etter, recognizing him as a great coach who has made a strong impact.
  • Drew Grogan chose Kevin Flaig. Drew described Mr. Flaig as one of the kindest teachers he has ever had. As both his wrestling coach and history teacher, Mr. Flaig is truly one of a kind and is very grateful for his support.
  • Genesis Hendrix selected Doris Williams from Intro to Art. Genesis shares that Mrs. Williams is always there for her — checking in every day and making sure he's doing well.
  • Ben Richards chose Cate Hensley, his English teacher. Ben shared that she is a fun and relatable teacher who truly gets to know her students as individuals. He added that he can never repay her for all she's done.
  • Jachob Yauger selected Kelly Naylor, his honors pre-calculus teacher. Jachob explained that this was the first class he's really struggled in, and Mrs. Naylor has been exceptional in helping him through it.
  • Rohan Chuwan selected Kurt Lemke, his Financial Literacy teacher. Rohan describes Mr. Lemke as cheerful, kind, and someone he truly enjoys talking to.
  • Adan Morales chose Todd Bradbury, his math teacher. Adan shared that Mr. Bradbury helped him get through 8th grade and truly understand math. Even though he doesn't have him this year, Mr. Bradbury continues to support him.
The closing statement over the PA system said, "To all of the staff members recognized tonight: thank you for your dedication, your patience, and the positive impact you have on our student-athletes. Your influence goes far beyond academics, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do."
